NAME: Chris Arouca
POSITION: Head Coach and Offensive Coordinator
ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Played guard as a 3-year starter and senior captain for Marshfield. Was a starter on Marshfield's first two championship teams (1995 & 1996). Also excelled as a wrestler at MHS, placing 4th at states as a junior and 3rd at states as a senior. Went on to play 4 years of football at Trinity College.
EXPERIENCE: Began coaching football in 2003 at Marshfield as an offensive line coach. Progressed to become the offensive coordinator for Marshfield, a position he held on Marshfield's last two state championship teams (2009 & 2014), making him the only person to win multiple rings for Marshfield as both a player and a coach. Took over as head coach at Hingham High School in 2015, improving the Harbormen record in each of his 3 seasons, leading his teams to the playoffs in 2016 and 2017, reaching the south sectional semi-finals in 2017. His 2017 team finished with an 8-3 record, culminating with a win a 7-6 Thanksgiving Eve win over rival Scituate at Fenway Park. Coach Arouca is excited to take over as head coach at Marshfield High School heading into the 2018 season.

POSITION: Defensive Coordinator
ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Began playing for the Rockland Youth Bulldogs in 1975. From 1981-1983 he was a member of the varsity team at Rockland High School, where he gained multiple honors, including 2-time League All-Star honors, Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic, and Enterprise All-Scholastic. Coach Newcomb was a team captain as a senior, and he was named team MVP at the end of the 1983 season.
EXPERIENCE: Coached for Rockland Youth Football from 1988-2007. Took a role as offensive line and linebackers coach at Archbishop Williams from 2008-2011. Went to Silver Lake as special teams coordinator, offensive line, and linebackers coach from 2012-2013. Joined the staff at Hanover in 2014 as assistant defensive coordinator. Served as defensive coordinator at Hingham from 2015-2017.

POSITION: Offensive Line
ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Played offensive line at Canton High School from 1984-1987. Played offensive tackle for the Middleboro Cobras of the Eastern Football League (1996-2006) and of the New England Football League (2007-2010). Won EFL Championships in 2004, 2005, 2006, and NEFL Championships in 2007 and 2008 (that's a 5-peat if you're scoring at home). Was captain of all 5 championship teams, a 6-time league all-star, and a 2011 Cobra Hall of Fame inductee. Was named Third Team All-American by the American Football Association in 1998.
EXPERIENCE: Served as a player-coach with the Middleboro Cobras from 2006-2010, taking on the role of the offensive line coach, in addition to his playing duties. Coached with Marshfield Youth Football from 2006-2010 in various roles, including head coach, offensive coordinator, and offensive line coach for the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade teams. Coached offensive line for MHS in 2012 and 2013 and returned to the gridiron for the Rams in 2015. Has served as the MHS Track throwing coach for shot put and discus since 2012.

ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Played wide receiver for Marshfield High School, finishing with 33 receptions and 6 touchdowns, while earning ACL all-star honors in 2011. Was a sophomore member of Marshfield's 2009 Super Bowl championship team. Was a sprinter on the MHS track team for 4 years. Went on to play wide receiver at Bridgewater State University for 4 years.
EXPERIENCE: Started coaching in 2016 for Marshfield as a freshman coach. In 2017 he coached varsity wide receivers and served as the JV head coach.

NAME: John Riordan
POSITION: Defensive Line
ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Played football at Brookline High School from 1956-1959. Continued to play football at Northeastern as a guard and linebacker from 1960-1965.
EXPERIENCE: Began his coaching career at Brookline High School as the freshman line coach in 1965 and 1966. Moved on to UCLA in 1969 to serve as a Graduate Assistant Freshman Coach for QB's. Coached at Curry College from 1970-1973, working as the offensive and defensive line coach in football, as well as the school's head tennis coach. Found his career home in 1973 at Milton High School, where he taught physical education and coached for 30 years (1973-2003). Coach Riordan was an offensive and defensive line coach for the Wildcats from 1973-1989, and he took over as head coach and offensive coordinator from 1990-2003. He also coached on the school's track team from 1973-1983, first as an assistant, and then as head coach. Coach Riordan joined the Marshfield Football staff in 2004, working with the offensive and defensive lines. Between his college and high school jobs, Coach Riordan has totaled over 50 years as a football coach.
SCHOOLS ATTENDED: Brookline High School (1956-1960); attended Northeastern University from 1960-1967, where he earned a B.S. in Business Administration; attended UCLA from 1967-1970, coming home with a Masters in Business Administration and M.S. in Physical Education.

PERSONAL INFO: Coach Riordan married Pamela Pearce in 1975, and they have been happily married ever since. They live in Milton for six months of the year, then at Humarock beach for the other six months. They also travel in the winter to Mississippi and Memphis to visit Pam's sister, and they enjoy spending time on various Caribbean islands and visiting friends in Florida. Coach Riordan also likes to go back to his roots in Ireland "to see cousins and the beautiful country."

NAME: Sean Bogni
ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Played linebacker and running back at Marshfield High School. Was captain of the 1990 team. Honors included: All-ACL (1989 & 1990), Boston Globe All-Scholastic (1990), Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic (1990), Shriners Classic All-Star Game (1990). Coach Bogni's senior season stats read like some exaggerated fishing story, but they're entirely legit and will be near impossible to surpass: He still holds the single-game school record for tackles with 27 (at Randolph in 1990). In addition, he still holds the school record for tackles in a season, thanks to the 181 stops he made during the 1990 campaign. Coach Bogni also played defense on one of the first lacrosse teams at MHS. He earned a football scholarship to the University of New Haven, but he tore his ACL in his first pre-season, and as was often the case in that era (prior to modern advancements in orthopedic medicine), it led to the end of his playing career.

Coach Tom Downey

NAME: Tom Downey
POSITION: Running Backs
ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Played football, baseball, and basketball at Duxbury High School.
EXPERIENCE: Despite his Duxbury roots, his coaching career found him settling in with the neighboring Marshfield squad. He began as an assistant coach in 1994, and he was part of the staff that coached the Rams to Super Bowl championships in 1995 and 1996. He remained part of the staff until 2001, when career changes took him away from coaching. Coach Downey would later return to coaching in 2009 as a youth football coach in Marshfield, and he has continued to serve on the Marshfield Youth Football Board. He returned to coach at Marshfield High School in 2012, and he was the running backs coach on the 2014 state championship team. In 2015 he spent one year under Coach Chris Arouca at Hingham High School as the running backs coach, as well as head JV coach. In 2016, Coach Downey returned to Marshfield as the offensive coordinator, leading an offense that scored 407 points and produced a 1,000 yard rusher (Jack McNeil). Coach Downey returned to Coach Arouca's staff in Hingham for the 2017 season, serving as an offensive assistant.

ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Was a three-sport captain in football, wrestling, and baseball at Weymouth High School. Played running back and outside linebacker for the Wildcats, rushing for over 3,100 yards and scoring 39 TD's. Earned D1A Eastern Mass All-Star honors and was selected to the all-scholastic teams of the Boston Globe, Boston Herald, and Patriot Ledger. Was nominated for the Gatorade Massachusetts High School Player of the Year award and was selected to play in the Massachusetts Shriners All-Star Game. Went on to play football at Merrimack and graduated in 2015 with a degree in Criminology.

NAME: Larry Nangle
POSITION: Defensive Backs Assistant
ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Coach Nangle was inducted into the Marshfield High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006, and for mighty good reason. He earned 4 varsity letters in basketball, and 3 varsity letters each in football, track, and baseball. He was a captain on the MHS football, basketball, and track teams during the 1958-1959 school year. Coach Nangle earned a Class C state championship on the MHS baseball team in 1958, earning All-Scholastic honors from the Boston Globe along the way. He was a Class D champion in the 400, and his school record in the 400 was finally broken in 2006 after standing for 46 years. Moved on to play baseball at Chamberlayne Junior College. After his school career, Coach Nangle took up golf, where he continued to excel athletically, earning 5 club championships over the years.
EXPERIENCE: Began coaching football at MHS in 1969, then coached at West Bridgewater from 1970-1973, before returning to Marshfield in 1974, where he coached through the 2017 season. Also coached track, which he began at West Bridgewater with the boys team (73-74), then continued at Marshfield (1985-2015), working as both an assistant and head coach at various times.

ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Played tight end and defensive end for Piscataway High School in New Jersey from 1982-1985. Was a 3-year starter for one of the top public high schools in the state. Named captain for his senior season. Named All Area Mid-State Conference. Also played baseball, basketball, and track in high school. Moved on to play college football at the University of Delaware from 1986-1988 in the former Yankee Conference. Played defensive end and defensive tackle for the Blue Hens under legendary coach Harold "Tubby" Raymond.
EXPERIENCE: Currently in his 16th year of volunteer football coaching at various levels. Has coached recent years with the freshman, JV, and varsity teams at Marshfield, focusing on defense. In previous seasons, coached youth football in the Old Colony Youth League and with the Football University Massachusetts All-State Team as defensive coordinator. Has won several championships at every level of his coaching career. Has also been on the board of directors for Marshfield Youth Baseball, and in recent years has been on the board of directors for Marshfield Youth Football.

ATHLETIC BACKGROUND: Played both football and baseball at Marshfield High School.
EXPERIENCE: Began volunteering as a youth football coach in Marshfield starting in 2005. Upon graduating from Marshfield High School, he began scouting for the school's football team in 2011. In 2013, he joined the Marshfield High staff as a full time offensive assistant working with the quarterbacks and wide receivers. In 2015, he became the offensive coordinator at Marshfield High School. Has spent the last two seasons as a film analyst for Hingham High School.
